Las Terrenas

Las Terrenas, once a sleepy, little fishing village on the North Coast of the Samana Peninsula, is today a prime vacation destination for visitors to the Dominican Republic. Las Terrenas is the main tourist base on the Samaná Peninsula. Those looking for peace and quiet will be awed with the calmness of the area and the beautiful white sand beach lined with tall palms and pastel-colored wooden fishing boats.

Vacation rentals in Las Terrenas

The brightly painted Dominican vacation homes are set amidst Mediterranean-influenced atmosphere. You can take your pick from cottages, condos, studios, cabins, estates, apartments or farmhouses. The vacation homes provide a perfect alternate to a hotel stay. You can soak in the local flavors, spend intimate moments in privacy or entertain your friends. These vacation homes come with all modern amenities including fully equipped kitchen, living room, private patio, landscaped gardens, private pools, and Jacuzzi among others. You can also hire the services of a housekeeping staff to take care of your needs or do the chores on your own.

  • Beaches: There are five public beaches in Las Terrenas. The center of town is split by a river outlet to the sea. The beach towards the east is known as Playa Punta Popy and to the west of the river in the middle of town is called Pueblo de los Pescadores. The main action is concentrated on this beach and so it is no surprise that it is dotted with restaurants and eateries to quench your hunger and thirst. Other beaches are Playa Las Ballenas, Playa Cosón and Playa Bonita.
  • Shopping: Shops here offer a variety of arts and crafts, many of them unique handmade items that you will not find anywhere else in the Dominican Republic.
  • Excursions: The 4-wheel drive and horseback riding trips are very popular because they allow you to see otherwise non-accessible areas of beauty.

Dining and nightlife

There are plenty of cafés and oceanfront restaurants where you can find people sipping wine, over long, leisurely lunches, or having a mid-day break over a café latte. Cacao Beach Casino is the only casino in Las Terrenas. On Playa Bonita, it's open daily from 7 PM to 4 AM.  Kick'n Ass Bar & Grill, run by an American expat, is a lively place for drinks and friendly conversation.
